The dates have been set and plans are in the works for  the third annual gathering at our northern location, a place we hope will become a regular site and base camp for many workshops and tours to come. Although still incomplete and under construction, it served our 2006 and 2007 gatherings well and was a good base camp for exploration of the area.

This year's gathering will continue to be a very informal gathering, of those in the Midwest region including, but not limited to Michigan, Indiana, Illinois Wisconsin, Minnesota, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Ontario. A time to meet, sit around the fire, share stories and most of all, photograph in and around what we believe to be among the most beautiful counties of the great State of Michigan. Time permitting, we will be able to venture to a few more spots including a day trip to the historic Mackinac Island I am planning. With its Victorian era architecture and absence of motor vehicles, it offers a unique photographic experience.

In addition to scouting and shooting, we have several campsite activities planned. Master printer, Bob Carnie from Elevator Workshops in Toronto will be giving his "Tales from the Darkroom" presentation focusing on future printing techniques. Cynthia Motzenbecker will be presenting selections from her vast collection of historic photographs. Jamie Young will reprise his wonderful presentation on the history of panoramic photography complete with updates for those that caught this last year. See his incredible 360 degree group photo from last year HERE! There will also be demonstrations of the wet plate collodion process by myself and Joe Smigiel as well as a small platinum printing and digital negative workshop for those interested. We are also working on a couple other things including transforming the small A-Frame cabin on the property into a camera obscura for some educational fun.

There is still room for others that would like to  offer a demonstration, talk or slide presentation as well. If you have a special talent that you would like to share with the group, please contact me and we can discuss logistics. We do not yet have a fully functioning darkroom, but we do have facilities for alternative processes as well as a projection screen and Kodak projector and slide stacker for use in slide presentations.

Sound good? Move on to the next page to register and get more information on what to expect, where to stay, etc.If attending, please download the information package from the links in the right hand column of this page. It provides more detailed information on where to stay, what to bring, etc.
